Tracy Beckerman writes the syndicated humor column, LOST IN SUBURBIA® which is carried weekly by Gatehouse Media. Her column is distributed to over 600 community newspapers and 555 local market websites that reach more that 21 million people in 36 states.
Tracy is the author of the humor book, “Lost in Suburbia: A Momoir. How I Got Pregnant, Lost Myself, and Got My Cool Back in the New Jersey Suburbs” (Perigee Books, 2013). Her first book, “Rebel without a Minivan: Observations on Life in the ‘Burbs,” was released in 2008. Additionally, she is a contributor to a humor compilation called, “See Mom Run: Side-Splitting Essays from the World’s Most Harried Moms.”and the anthology, “Fifty Shades of Funny: Hook ups, Break Ups and Crack Ups.”
Beckerman also writes a blog which features her musings on marriage, and motherhood, and offers tips for being a cool mom in the suburbs. In addition to her column, Beckerman has written for Huffington Post Comedy BuzzFeed , Blogher.com, and vlogged for Working Mother Magazine.
Tracy has appeared on The Today Show on NBC, the CBS Early Show, Good Day New York, LX New York, Better TV, WCBS-TV Live from the Couch, WGN-TV, Good Day Dallas, Fox5DC, and numerous radio and print interviews speaking about motherhood and life in the ‘burbs. She also does stand-up comedy and has appeared at venues including The Comic Strip Live in NYC and The Erma Bombeck Workshop in Dayton. She was also featured in a story about Erma Bombeck on CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood.
Tracy has spoken at numerous blog conferences, schools, and women’s groups about being a stay at home mom, losing your identity, and reinventing yourself, as well as many industry conferences on the topics of syndication, branding, and humor writing. She has been a featured speaker at Blogher, Blogalicious, BloggyCon, Aiming Low, Dad 2.0, The National Society of Newspaper Columnists Conference, American Society of Journalists and Authors, The Erma Bombeck Writer’s Workshop, Windsor International Writers Conference, and more.
In a Past Life
Before she became a columnist, Beckerman was a writer and producer in the television industry for ten years, managing the Advertising & Promotion department at WCBS-TV New York, and creating award-winning TV and radio scripts for such clients as Lifetime Television, WCBS-TV, CBS and NBC.
Her numerous honors for writing include the prestigious Writer’s Guild of America award, a CLIO, an International Film and Television award, and a New York Emmy®. In 2010 she was voted “America’s Top Blogger” by The Balancing Act and in 2011, she won a National Society of Newspaper Columnists award for humor writing. In 2014, Tracy was the Global Humor Award Winner of the coveted Erma Bombeck Writing Competition.
Tracy is a three time past faculty member of the Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop and is the Vice-president of The National Society of Newspaper Columnists Education Foundation. She is also a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors, The Society of Professional Journalists, and the Journalism and Women Symposium.
Tracy is married to a very understanding guy. They have two children and live in New Jersey where she writes, does battle with woodchucks, and avoids, at all costs, driving a minivan.
